Who is this course designed for?

Empower Yourself DIY Training is designed for adults who want to gain practical DIY skills and confidence around the home.

Whether you’ve never picked up a drill before, want to become more independent with home maintenance, or simply wish to learn in a friendly and supportive environment, this course is for you.

We welcome anyone who may have felt that DIY courses, workshops, or trades were out of reach. Our aim is to provide a relaxed, hands-on learning experience where questions are encouraged and confidence grows with every task.

Is this course suitable for everyone?

While we aim to make the course as accessible as possible, participants should be aware that the training involves extended periods of standing, bending, lifting tools and materials, and repetitive hand and arm movements.

As a result, the course may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions or mobility limitations, including severe arthritis or conditions that affect strength, grip, balance, or prolonged standing.

If you have any concerns about whether the course is suitable for you, please contact us before booking and we will be happy to discuss your requirements.

Do I need any previous DIY experience?

No. This course is designed for complete beginners and those looking to improve their confidence with basic DIY tasks. Just a hunger to learn and an open mind.

How long is the course?

The course is typically a one-day practical workshop with plenty of hands-on experience. typically the course starts from 9.30 to around 3pm but it can vary depending on the course.

Is the training practical or classroom-based?

The course is primarily practical. We believe the best way to learn DIY is by doing it yourself under guidance.

What do I need to bring?

All tools, materials and safety equipment are provided.

We provide tea, coffee, water and biscuits. Please bring lunch or prefered drinks. There is a shop 5 minutes walk from our location.

What should I wear?

Anything that you don’t mind getting damaged. Something flexible enough to work in but not too baggy. No slippy open toed shoes/sandals allowed.

I don’t find DIY interesting. Should I go?

If DIY doesn’t interest you at all and you have no intention of doing jobs yourself at home, the course may not be for you. However, many people discover they enjoy it once they gain the skills and confidence to tackle simple tasks successfully.

Are there women only classes?

Potentially yes with enough demand. Please contact us to enquire.

What are the class sizes?

A: Class sizes are kept small to ensure everyone receives individual guidance and plenty of hands-on practice.

Currently no less than 2 or more than 4 people to a class but may numbers may change in the future.

Is there parking available?

Yes, free parking is available on site at your own risk or on the road.

How much do I need to pay before I attend?

A minimum deposit of £60. You can pay the final balance when booking or on the day of the course.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Please contact us as soon as possible. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

• [100% refund] if cancelled over 14 days before the course date.
• [50% deposit loss] if cancelled between 8 and 14 days before the course date.
• [Loss of deposit] if cancelled within 7 days of the course date or for no shows.

Rescheduling Policy:
If you are unable to attend your booked course, you may reschedule your place once, provided you give at least 8 days’ notice before the course date.
Requests to reschedule made less than 8 days before the course date will result in the loss of your deposit.

Will there be other courses available?

Yes. Planned future courses include: Flat Pack Furniture Assembly, One-Day Plumbing Home Maintenance Skills, Heating Controls & Smart Thermostats Additional, DIY Workshops based on demand.

What if I’m nervous about attending?

Many people attend with little or no DIY experience. The course is friendly, supportive, and designed to help you learn at your own pace without feeling intimidated.

Can I ask questions about DIY projects at home?

Yes. We encourage questions and will do our best to provide advice and guidance during the course.

What if I make a mistake?

That’s exactly why the course exists. You’ll learn in a safe environment where mistakes are part of the learning process, helping you build confidence before tackling jobs at home.
